Stopping Fatty Change In Heart Cells
Heart failure is one of the world"s most frequent causes of death - caused by conditions such as diabetes and obesity. With people who are overweight, the heart has to do more work in order to pump the blood through the circulatory system and this causes an increase in blood pressure. The heart itself becomes enlarged as the myocardial muscle cells increase in mass. To enable the heart to grow there also has to be an increased supply of energy and oxygen. However, the myocardial muscle cells suffer from a lack of oxygen and energy until such time as there are enough blood vessels to support the tissue.

Informa Announces A New Award For Best Review Paper

The editors of Disability & Rehabilitation and its sister publication, Disability & Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology have announced an annual award which will be given for the best review paper published in either of the two journals. Commencing in 2009, the Informa Best Review Paper Award will recognise valuable, high-impact research in the fields of disability, rehabilitation and assistive technology. Informa Healthcare, which publishes the two journals, is sponsoring the award and is offering a ÷£500 cash prize to the lead author of the winning paper. "The Informa Best Review Paper Award is open to all authors and every review paper published within these two journals during 2009 will be considered," says Sally Howells, Managing Editor of the two publications at Informa Healthcare. "There is no requirement for authors to actively nominate submissions; if we publish the paper, it will be automatically entered for the award." The judging will take place in early 2010 and will examine each paper published for innovation, effectiveness, and how it moves research forward to secure advances in the field. A selected editorial team made up of the publications" editors and selected editorial board members will form the judging panel and the field of entrants is expected to be of the highest quality. "Our papers undergo a strict peer-review process including a minimum of two people," explains Howells. "We publish a combined total of 32 issues of these academic journals every year and we are inundated with review papers of extremely high quality, so everything that is accepted for publication is impressive. We are looking out for those papers with truly outstanding qualities and the winning papers will be ground-breaking in this important field of research." These awards will be held annually, with the editorial team meeting at the beginning of each year to judge all review papers published during the previous volume. The recipient of the award will be notified and details of the award will be announced online. Authors preparing manuscripts for submission should first consult the Journals" Instructions for Authors available from the publications" homepages: http://www.informaworld.com/DisabilityAndRehabilitation or http://www.informaworld.com/AssistiveTechnology Disability & Rehabilitation and Disability & Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology
