AVEO's Tivozanib Demonstrates Anti-Tumor Activity In Engineered Lung Tumors Exhibiting Treatment Resistant Mutations
AVEO Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company leveraging breakthrough discoveries in cancer biology to discover, develop and commercialize targeted oncology therapies, today announced data which demonstrates that tivozanib (AV-951) - the company"s oral, triple VEGF receptor inhibitor - exhibits potent anti-angiogenic and anti-tumor activity in AVEO"s proprietary in vivo lung cancer models. Specifically, treatment with tivozanib resulted in complete tumor growth inhibition or tumor regression (shrinkage) in lung tumors driven by EGFR or KRAS mutations, which are especially difficult to treat. These data are being presented today at the 13th World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in San Francisco, abstract number PD10.1.5.

Amarillo Biosciences Announces Completion Of Screening Process For Influenza Study In Australia
Amarillo Biosciences, Inc. (ABI) (OTCBB: AMAR) announced that the screening of volunteers for inclusion in a Phase 2 clinical study of the company"s oral interferon product at the University of Western Australia is now complete. The investigators met their target of screening at least 200 healthy adults for participation in the trial. A total of 215 volunteers were evaluated and 134 of them have been enrolled into the study to date. About 90% of the screened subjects have been found to qualify for the study, so additional enrollments are expected over the next 2 weeks to bring the total number of study participants up to or above the targeted 160 subjects.

Clinical Study Shows Value Of Nexstim's Navigated Brain Stimulation (NBS) In Eloquent Cortex Surgery

Nexstim Oy, a medical device company developing non-invasive brain diagnostics and therapy technologies, announces presentation of the abstract "TMS as a part of multimodal management of safe glioma resection in the motor cortex" at the 60th Annual Meeting of the German Society of Neurosurgery. Clinicians at the distinguished Department of Neurosurgery, Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University, Frankfurt, Germany compared the results of non-invasive TMS, using Nexstim"s Navigated Brain Stimulation (NBS) System, and fMRI with the results of invasive direct cortical stimulation (DCS) in patients with tumors in or near the motor cortex. The clinicians noted that in all patients "TMS showed congruence with DCS. In contrast to fMRI, TMS and DCS enabled identification of eloquent cortex within the tumor." In addition, the Frankfurt clinicians concluded that "TMS (as part of Nexstim"s NBS System) may call into question categorizing tumors in the motor cortex as unresectable, since TMS anticipates information usually only enabled by invasive DCS." Abstract: click here. Jukka-Pekka Sç¤rkkç¤, Managing Director of Nexstim commented, "The Frankfurt study confirms our belief that NBS overcomes the limitations of fMRI and we were pleased with the enormous interest in NBS at this important meeting." About NBS in neurosurgery Unlike functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), NBS is a direct method, like DCS, for accurate mapping of the cerebral cortex. DCS is considered the gold standard but it is an invasive technique and can require a large, awake craniotomy. Accurate presurgical maps of the vital functional areas of the cortex, enabled by NBS, allow selection of the optimal treatment strategy for the individual patient, they also save valuable time in the OR and have the potential to enable better patient outcomes. NBS System is CE-marked. Caution: in the United States the NBS System is limited by Federal law to investigational use. Nexstim
